EXTRA FINE AYVAD PATENT TRIPLE CLAW 'CHISEL EDGE' AZDE HAMMER

13 3/4" long. Excellent overall condition noting a chip at the base of the handle. Faint stamp on the head reads 'CHISEL CLAW HAMMER CO. H. A. AYVAD PAT APD FOR HOBOKEN N.J. MADE IN USA'.

Hachig A. Ayvad was an Armenian immigrant turned naturalized American who worked out of Hoboken, New Jersey. Strangely, this is arguably the only tool patent he holds while his others were innovations in two unrelated industries: bookbinding and life preserving equipment. This piece comes from a diligent hammer collector who indexed and wrote extensive notes on each item that I was able to verify.

Advertised as a 5-in-1 hammer with the following functions:

1. Chisel Edge—Cutting and hewing.
2. Upper End of Claw—Starts stubborn nails.
3. Grip of Claw—Can grip pointed end of nail and pull head right through wood.
4. Two Side Claws—Gets grip where no other hammer or claw hatchet will fit.
5. Off Set Head—Additional inch fulcrum. 10’s can be pulled with one pull.
