TINY ROSEWOOD HALL & KNAPP (?) & BRASS TRY SQUARE - 2 13/16"

Regular price $75.00 USD

Very small size. I can see the faintest hint of an arched maker's stamp which is possibly HALL & KNAPP. Rosewood and brass in nice condition. Some pitting on the blade. Cannot tell if it's rosewood or ebony but leaning to the former. Very hard size to find.

From Eric Benson (https://chapticowood.com/pages/early_american.html) who has done tremendous work on documenting early square makers: Thomas S. Hall & Frederick Knapp started their company in 1853 to produce squares, bevels, and levels. In 1858 it merges with A. Stanley & Co to form Stanley Rule & Level. Since A Stanley & Co produced rules, the combined products of the two companies were a perfect compliment. The squares and bevels produced by Hall & Knapp therefore became the early offerings by Stanley Rule & Level.
