This level is in remarkable condition for its age with barely a scratch anywhere in the brass. Pierre Gourdin was an engineer and scientific instrument maker ca. 1775 - 1800 who was twice rejected in his application to become the King's engineer in France. Several other of his pieces are known to be stamped "Gourdin a Paris" and dated within his working years. This is beautifully made with very fine knurling on the two end caps and the level bubble is crystal clear. Exceptional to find a piece of this vintage in this condition. Uncleaned as found.
