STUNNING 1870s JAMES SUTHERLAND MONTREAL STATIONER'S BOOK PRESS

Remarkable book or copy press with most original gilding and beautiful floral motif paint still intact. This is a larger press than usual with the upper press plate measuring 15" x 1" and weighing about 85 pounds. In gold is printed "JAMES SUTHERLAND STATIONER MONTREAL". Sutherland was in the stationery business in Montreal in the 1870s and this either was his personal press (likely) or sold by him. The hand wheel has a very aged patinated leather cover which is clearly very early or original to the press. It is amazing that it has remained in this state of preservation for over 150 years.
