Very heavy brass back.  Stamped 'ALEX MATHIESON & SON GLASGOW & EDINBURGH' on the brass back. Very nice brass button. Ca 1880 as per Simon Barley's outstanding book on British sawmakers. Looks like a rip cut... Handle tips are fine, and has an age check in the palm area of the handle. Good overall condition and perfectly useable with a file and set..
