VERY RARE W THOMAS FULL BOX SIDE BEAD WOOD PLANE - ROSEWOOD BOXING

A rare opportunity. William Thomas is listed in AWP 3 with one instance of a bead plane stamped 'Wm THOMAS/BALTIMORE' being sold in 1992. The stamp here differs as it reads 'W THOMAS' with the 'S' being stamped backwards. This example has characteristics of Baltimore planemakers from around 1835-75 in which Thomas worked. It also has full lignum vitae or rosewood boxing which is very typical of Baltimore planemakers. Beautiful clear stamp. Good overall condition.
