I have seen many anvils in my day but only a select one or two I would consider new old stock. I have looked this over closely and am confident this is in essentially original factory condition. The black paint appears original, the chipping around the hardy and pritchel holes are factory nicks, there are fine 'milling' marks all over the top surface, and there is virtually no wear. Top surface has some oxidization as could be expected but no pitting. It was likely hammered on a few dozen times then remained unused for over a century. Found in Nova Scotia where many anvils were brought over as ballast in ships from England. 12 3/16" long and 5 15/16" tall. 26 pds +/-. Dated 1916. Will be crated for shipping.
