RARE 1868 PATENT GOMPH BRASS & ROSEWOOD LEATHER SLITTER CUTTER

This must have been Gomph's first patent as he was first in business around 1866. This is very clearly stamped "PAT. MAY 5. 68. GOMPH". I have also seen this referred to as a hidden stitched channeling tool for leather work by cobblers, harness makers, and saddlers.
